Montgomery County Has Former Correctional Facility Demolished

Some say it is easier to destruct than it is to construct. But not all situations are that simplistic. Take for example the county correctional facility in Montgomery County, NY. The former Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, which included the sheriff residence and the jail, needed to be demolished.
The project was complicated by the fact that the structure contained asbestos and had an 80-foot radio tower affixed to the top of one of the roofs. A project of this magnitude and specificity required the expertise of a professional demolition service. Jackson Demolition Services Inc was selected to undertake the demolition project.
The first step of the project was to complete a gross asbestos removal process. Jackson Demolition worked with Jupiter Asbestos on this aspect of the demolition. The asbestos removal entailed using manual tools and aerial lift equipment. But near the completion of this step, the building started to collapse. This required that the building be taken down under a controlled demolition with the remaining asbestos in place.
In order to take down the 80-foot radio tower, controlled felling techniques were executed at the demolition site.
The 20,000 square foot of structures consisted of the wood, masonry and steel building materials. To complete the task, Jackson Demolition used a Caterpillar 330 BL UHD excavator. The model designation, “UHD,” refers to the ultra high demolition application that the unit is specifically designed for. The excavator was outfitted with a shear attachment. Jackson Demolition also used a Komatsu PC300 with a grapple attachment at the demolition site.
As a part of the services provided during the demolition project, Jackson Demolition completed all waste handling procedures, such as transportation and disposition. Jackson also drew up all of the necessary manifests, haul permits and pre- and post-project submittals that were required for the disposal of the waste generated at the demolition site.
In order to complete the project effectively, Jackson Demolition also scheduled all of the manpower and equipment needs while ensuring that the work and safety plans were in place and adhered to during throughout the weeks-long operation. Jackson Demolition demonstrated itself to be a full service, vertically integrated demolition service.
Jackson Demolition is not limited to only building demolition projects. Their services include concrete crushing, environmental remediation, recycling and plant decommissioning. When a company or governmental entity works with an organization that has the depth and berth of experience that is found at Jackson Demolition, they are certain to have answers for their questions and are left with results that they desire. Joey Loudis, project manager and estimator, summed up his perspective on the company: “Jackson Demolition Services is a very experienced company that offers a broad scope of services backed by a reputation of completing projects timely and on budget.”
Jackson Demolition Services, Inc. specializes in large-scale demolition projects. The firm has completed projects from Maine to Florida for Merck, Bayer Material Science and Eastman Kodak.
